My purpose has been to see if it's possible to pull back the value from the ALS and scale/modify the point at which the keyboard lights turn on & off. Up until this point, I've just been trying unsuccessfully to capture the ALS value.
FWIW, your code doesn't work for me, but your call, in my code, seems to (replacing my malformed IOConnectCallScalarMethod with your IOConnectCallMethod). Thanks for that.

Heres my deal:
I am a musician working with garageband and I have always been recording to my internal drive until recently
. I was unaware until I read some posts here from the good people like you guys, that that is not a good idea to record to your internal drive. So, I got an external firewire 800 drive (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DGZ05A) and this cable (http://www.amazon.com/2M-Firewire-800-9PIN-Cable/dp/B000XQILWK/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_b). When I received it, I first used disk utility and reformatted it for Mac OS Extended Journaled. Then I proceeded to move a couple sample libraries and my entire "Garageband" folder (with my saved songs in it) to the external. I instantly knew something was wrong. The files were taking forever to get written over. It took about 15 mins for a 5GB folder to be moved over. I was already discouraged. Anyway, I plugged in the USB cable that came with the external (the drive has hook ups for both USB 2 and firewire 400/800) and tried moving the same files and it was MUCH faster. The same 5GB file was moved over in a matter of minutes.
I then tried recording to the drive (using firewire again) and it would hardly even PLAY the song without stopping every couple seconds (too many effects error, and yes ALL the tracks were locked). Tried to record as well and i'd get even less time before garageband would stop the song with the same error. So I disconnected firewire and went USB. Thru USB the song didnt stop once, not on playback OR recording. Then I moved the songs back to my internal and played them (and recorded) with no problem either.
I ran a couple tests on the drive using AJA system test and came back with these results:
Basic test of read/write speed using firewire 800:
write - 14/mb sec
read - 21/mb sec
then, using usb 2.0
write - 18/mb sec
read - 37/mb sec
both these connections seemed to be running slower then they should ..but at least the USB connection would actually let me play a song and record to it without stopping
I manually copied over a 2.04GB file and via firewire 800 connection it took 2 mins and 20 secs. Via the USB 2 connection it was 55 seconds! ..also, while i transfered the files i noticed that the USB transfer was nice and steady with tiny increments of the file being transferred. Firewire, however, was speedy then slow, speedy then slow. Very inconsistant transfer speed throughout the process. kind of choppy
So what gives? I cant figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or if my external HD is bad? Or the cable is bad? Or maybe the firewire port on my mac mini is bad (i've never used it before for anything other than this external drive). Or i'm thinking maybe my processor isnt strong/fast enough to record to the external firewire drive? Im working with a mac mini 120GB internal HD and the 2ghz intel core 2 duo with only 2GB ram (i know thats not ideal for recording and im planning to upgrade at some point, but i have been recording to the internal just fine with the RAM i have now and never had a problem until trying to record to the firewire drive). I was going to go out today and get a new cable and see if that was the cause of it. Anyway sorry for the book-length post! I haven't gotten an Apple product on launch day before, but my understanding is that because the retail launch is so much larger for the iPad 2 than the original, the process/availability may be quite different. Which model are you shooting for? I'm looking for a 64gb wifi model, so my hope is that the price will deter sales for a couple hours.
I get out of class around 3, and I think I'm going to try the apple store to get one at 5:00 . . .if that fails I'm going to move on to on Lawndale target . . .then Walmart in Asheboro - where I'm unfortunate enough live.

Ok, so it isn't really possible to build a complete website from scratch but I do want something that would allow me to make small changes. Basically I'm looking for something that will let me FTP to my site, download a page, edit it and then upload the changed page.
Is there anything out there that people can recommend?

You need to provide a lot more detail than what you're currently providing. Are you using blogging software? Is this at a conventional web host or something like Blogger?
For example, if you're using Wordpress, you can't just do what you want. Templates are used to generate the site on the fly each time it's loaded. You'd have to edit the templates, which aren't actually what you see on the page when you load it. It could be a combination of 4 templates that generate one page that you see.
If it's flat HTML then yes, there are tools out there that can help you. But you need to give up some details so we can even tell you if it's possible.

552,139 points sounds about right if your overclocked to 10.3ghz but if not then something is wrong :p
Anyways. Try and do a slight overclock to 3.5-8ghz and you'll be finishing bigadvs in no time. You need to fully complete 10 bigadv WUs to start getting their bonus. You will get 75k + points when you complete it. I get closely 90k points when I complete one, which is around 55k PPD.
Don't be afraid to OC, the 920s are the best and you can probably get close to 4ghz on air. See how far you can go on stock voltages. I got a really good chip as I'm at 4.2ghz @1.26v and it's 24/7 folding stable. Lower volts = lower temps and vice versa.
Just make sure you are using an aftermarket cooler if you OC. If you try and OC to 4Ghz with the stock....:o
My i7 920 OC'ed to 3.8 runs bigadvs like a champ. Too bad the OS X client hasn't been updated... I wanna run bigadvs again....:mad:

I fail to see the need to preserve a baseband that can't be unlocked.
The team isn't going to waste their time working on 3.10 when they can just work on the most recent, or put serious effort into whatever comes with 5.0.

I myself like the 300Gb maxtor, it is a little bit noiser then the seagate but the 16mb cache does make it feel snappy. Besides it makes the most sense in $. It is jus a little bit more than less storage and a lot less than those with 400 or 500Gb. My 2 cents.

thank you for replying! but i think im doing it wrong. i tried to follow the link you had but its not working for me. can you please help walk me through it or anyone else who wants to help me? i started up my mac with the mac os x dvd and went to the disk utility but my bootcamp partition wasnt allowing me to repair it ( grayed out options ).
That link is for getting an OS X install up and running if it won't boot. That link won't work at all for windows. Flopticalcube was talking about putting the windows install DVD into your computer, and running windows startup repair from that disk.

i am visiting apps that i bought via itunes and there is no any info there that i bought or not. So, if i format or change my mac then can i restore with that backed up folder?
Yes, you can manually backup your application folder if you wish.
If you happen to have a hard drive crash, etc. its very easy to email apple support and tell them what has happened. They will put up everything you've purchssed, and lost, backup in your download queue and then you can redownload them again.
My wife had her laptop stolen, lost everything. One email to apple support, and less than 24 hours later she had about 60 apps and over 300 songs available to download again. It was some of the greatest support I've seen.
