Ive let it run down completely a couple times before but i havent had any visible changes. I could try lowering the brightness and turning off the push notifications. It still should'nt go down 5% battery for just a facebook update.

I would say that OS 9 was Apples Vista and that was over 10 years ago.
Things I like about SL:
+1 I gained back about 20 gig on a 160 gig drive.
+1 App store. Yes I like the app store and the only thing I have mixed feelings about is it wants to put everything I buy in the dock. That's not gonna last long.
+1 $29. It's been a long time since I got a new OS for only $29. No wait. Never. This is the first time I've got a new OS this cheap without going through some OEM or student status ritual.
+1 Dock. I like the tweaks SL brought to the way the dock works.
Things I don't like about SL:
-1 Less stable than Leopard but the biggest culprits I found for making my machine lose its mind were: Firefox 3.x, Eyefi center (previous version), Handbrake (previous version). On the latest versions of these programs I rarely see that dastardly beach ball.
-1 More about stability. I seem to get more "quit unexpectedly" issues under SL than I used to see under Leopard.
-1 Speed. I find SL to be efficient compared to Windows but it seems to be slightly slower than Leopard on the same hardware.
As for iWork, iTunes and Steam having issues, I haven't used Steam but I do find iTunes to be less than stable no matter what OS you use it on. iWork, OTOH has been rock solid for me. I also use LibreOffice and my wife uses MS Office 2011 all of which are stable on SL.

Their solution seems to be working well:
Bitch about it on the internet, get lots of coverage and offers of support, and with some hard work, get it sorted out.
(Note: I would also bitch loudly about it if the same thing happened to me)

Most packages for consumer products are designed for one of three purposes:
1) To improve the packaging of an existing product;
2) To add a new product to an existing product line; or
3) To contain an entirely new product.
I want to know what type of packages you redesign?

I use a cheapy old bluetooth that I got at a local electronic discount store for $20 it works fine. I used it on a VoIp app that I have.. only problem is that the voice gets delayed for a few seconds and it can be choppy at times.

Do we have any ideas/updates on this one?
No, but if you go visit the the D3/D700 forum on dpreview they have 5 or 6 threads a day filled with baseless speculation on this topic. You can at least get your fill there.

Best serial and terminal emulator available on the Mac. This was my one holdout from the PC world for the longest time
I just found a student pricing form buried on the site for a $20 educational license here (http://www.vandyke.com/pricing/educational/applications/student.html). Will hatve to shoo them an email.
Thanks for all the replies, Guess I just need to create a basic template with ssh access enabled and a dhcp pool to enable direct ssh access. I'll have to try cu now that I have my new mac. thanks for the tip Andrew

I've recently installed a 2.33ghz c2d chip in my old 1.66 cd mac mini. The performance boost has been great!
I've noticed temps have gotten a little high while running encodes and such... around low - mid 90s C while handbrake is encoding. I know this is still within operating temperature, but i'd like them to be a little lower.
I managed to keep the plastic clips from breaking while installing my cpu. I've been thinking about replacing the nylon clips with some nylon screws, like others have mentioned.
My question, Do people use the springs that came with the clips when installing the screws? Or do people just screw the heatsink down snug to the cpu without the springs?
Thanks,
Would any OEM C2D chip work?

You might want to take a look at Zoho Creator (http://www.zoho.com/creator/database-software.html) and see if it might meet your needs...

Well I hope I get a WD one too :)
I always had WD drives (good experience results in staying with the brand:D) but I never had a Seagate so I didn't know which of the two were better.

still wipe and do a clean install just because it cant hurt.
the best way it to buy an external hdd and just copy and paste your data (thats what i do) or make a time machine back up
your itunes question is very easy actually copy your entire itunes folder and library to the new external drive.-> go into itunes on the MBA-> go into preferences and advanced you will see where it shows your itunes media folder location click change-> and remap it to the external driver you can only access it while plugged in but it will save a lot of space.

still waiting on a 64-Bit SMP client
I thought it was 64-bit? After all there is no 32 bit linux version yet so I would think the OS X version is 64 bit.
